UWS has announced two new partnerships with Motherwell and Hamilton Academical Women’s Football Clubs as it aims to be the leader in sports and exercise science research.
And part of the partnership includes two newly appointed Master of Research Sports Science students who will undertake specialised research focusing on best practice across sport science within female football.

The students – Luke Murray and Mark Wright – will be given the opportunity to produce new data and research while working with The University of the West of Scotland’s Sport and Exercise Division.
UWS Exercise Science Lecturer, Dr Mark Sanderson said: “We’re delighted to announce our new links with Hamilton Academical and Motherwell FC’s women’s teams. The partnerships will provide our newly appointed students Luke and Mark with the opportunity to gain valuable applied research experience within an elite football club environment.
Robert Watson, Assistant Manager and Club Secretary at Hamilton Academical Women’s Football Club, said: “This is a fantastic step forward for our club. I have been extremely impressed with what UWS can offer us and what we can give back to them.
The aim of the partnerships is to enable the clubs and UWS involve complete novel research which will be beneficial to both.
