Scotland’s nationwide road concerns

Jakub Kondraciuk

Scotland has seen a growing crisis occur over recent years in terms of its roadworks up and down the country and through its hills.

Despite several councils around the country being vocal about several issues on its road services with some having report pages online in order to attempt to fix the problems that these roads have.

However, these issues have been extensively addressed time and time again and road users believe that the councils aren’t pushing hard enough to tackle the severance of potholes and debris on roads, particularly in rural areas up in the Argyll region and the Stirling district.

This is seeming to cause a near collapse of infrastructure. Sean Duthart said: “There needs to be more done to imrpove safety on our roads. When I once drove down by the coast of dunoon, there was no safety barriers or smooth road surface to feel as if I was not gonna have a bad accident at any stage. More needs to be done!”

The motorway network in itself over recent months has become somewhat of a crisis for those trying to get to their workplace or destination without being disrupted by road closures and 5-mile-long roadworks such as the M8 passing through the renfrewshire council before cutting into the city centre, including Kingston bridge.

Known for being one of Europe’s busiest and “audacious” urban motorways, its become a traffic paradise for the city’s road users as Glasgow will see all major roadworks remain until the middle of 2027 having began in September of last year.

The main issues with these motorway networks throughout Scotland is also down to the road surfaces in which comply with the inconsistent speed adherence as road users complain that these regular problems is what leaves Scotland to build up such congested traffic, no matter the road or area you live in.

It’s clear that drastic changes are necessary if we are to see less accidents and evasive driving occur on Scottish roads.
