Killie Exodus : Stars on the verge of exit

By Marc Birch

Problems could be on the horizon for Kilmarnock in 2019 after an incredible 2018.

With a new year comes a new transfer window, and the potential loss of those players that have helped see the club hit new heights. Jordan Jones has already sparked controversy regarding his decision to sign a pre-contract with Rangers. And news has surfaced in recent days that clubs are set to try and pinch more stars in January.

Forward Greg Stewart is set to be recalled by his parent club Birmingham City. Manager Gary Monk is reportedly set to bring the Scotsman back to Birmingham, not to play him, but to sell or loan the striker back out of the club. It is rumoured that Sunderland may be in line to snap him up or a potential return to Killie on new terms could be on the cards.

Killie fans have gone as far to set up a “GoFundMe” attempting to keep the player at Rugby Park.

GoFundMe page creator and Kilmarnock fan @fc_1869 tweeted regarding his love for the current Kilmarnock striker “The goal at Ibrox. The chip at Pittodrie. Ending Mark Milligan’s career. Sending 2 Dundee players to the shops at once. And so much more. Greg Stewart, it’s been a pleasure.”

And Stewart isn’t the only player said to be potentially leaving the club. Eamonn Brophy has reportedly had interest from Leeds United. The Championship side currently sit top of the table and have had two of their key forwards leave. Samu Siaz and Lewis Baker’s exit has seen Leeds search for a forward stepped up. Rumours being that the man nicknamed ‘The Wolf’ could be the whites target.

Jordan Jones pre-contract agreement to sign with Rangers seemed to be the catalyst for the Killie stars to gain interest. Jones was greeted with a strong backlash after a controversial tweet and snapchat video was released after he signed with the Glasgow side.

The tweet was met with fury after the hashtag “WATP” referencing the Glasgow side. With many fans feeling it was a disrespectful move from jones, especially as Kilmarnock are in a battle for places in the table along side the Gers.

These being the tamer of some of the tweets directed at Jones.

The question now remains what do fans think? Is this potential exodus a severe blow to what could have and still could be a title bid.

The jury is out on Kilmarnock being able to cope with such key players leaving. Killie do though have a belief that Stewart can continue his stay at Rugby Park. Fan account @KillieFC suggest the loss of Stewart may not in fact take place. Killie rumoured to be doing everything they can to keep the Scotsman who is adored by the blues fans until at least the end of the season.

A rumoured return for Yousouff Mulumbu could see a more positive incoming as the former Kilmarnock man’s move to Celtic hasn’t worked out, a loan from Celtic could be on the cards. A potential light at the end of the tunnel.

Can 2019 continue as 2018 ended for Kilmarnock, it would seem a lot hinges on whether or not stars like Stewart and Brophy remain at the club. Killie fans will be hoping to see the pair in the blue and white to keep dreaming a little bit longer.
