THE Magnum Ice Dance Figure Club are celebrating 10 young skaters reaching the British Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield this week.
The Magnum has ran the skating groups for several years and the coaches are delighted the 10 girls have reached the prestigious national competition.
Ten-year-old Eilish Latham is the second youngest skater in Scotland who has qualified for the event achieving first place in both Blackpool and Murrayfield this year.
Coach, Gillian Otterson, said: “A lot of the girls gained great experience from this opportunity, they gained a lot from coming along and had a fantastic day. Some of them even had top 10 finishes, which I am delighted about and their positive attitude throughout was good to see.”
Another huge success was for Ele Silvester, who secured third place at the event with her free skate, which was a fantastic achievement as she had previously broken a backbone and there was a fight to get her there.
Lucy Merrilees also got a score of third place at the event.
Gillian continued: “As there is a minority of girls in sports it is brilliant to see young girls putting 100% of their effort in and seeing it pay off when they achieve their medals and also watching them perform.
“They will be looking forward to a wind-down now after Christmas, which is well deserved, but in the mean time will be performing their Christmas shows. They will be back of course in the new year starting around February March time.”
A showcase skating event will take place at the Magnum on December 18.
