Match Preview: Raith Rovers v Ayr United

By Michael Wood

TONIGHT Raith Rovers and Ayr United will take the Stark’s Park field with Ian McCall looking to avenge the 2-0 defeat Gary Locke inflicted on his side back in August at Somerset Park.

The Kirkcaldy outfit will be hoping that continues to be the case as they look to beat Ayr in the second tier for the first time since March 2004.

They will not find a better chance with the Honest Men having reverted to the same form that they started the season in with three successive defeats.

This in addition with Stark’s Park being a stronghold for the Fifers. In fact the only games in which Raith have dropped points at home was against Hibernian (0-0) and Falkirk (0-2).

In recent weeks the Rovers have maintaining their promotion playoff form but after a couple of wins they have stuttered with two draws in a row.

What Raith Rovers are saying

“Of course I want to play at the highest level in Scotland, but I want to do that with Raith. I think that is a realistic aim. Considering the season we had last year as well, the play-offs are realistic for us and, if we get in there, anything can happen.” (Iain Davidson, midfielder)

What Ayr United are saying

”We were really unfortunate to come away with nothing from Saturday’s match. We got into some great positions and on another day the end result could have been much different. It just shows how difficult this league is, we need to be at our best every week and we are delighted to have another opportunity so quickly to get a positive result.” (Ian McCall, manager)
