As the war in Iran rages on into its 11th day, we spoke with UWS students to get their thoughts on the conflict.
Jack Schooler, 18, a TV, Radio, and Podcast Production student said: “Even though the death of the supreme leader was a net positive, the manner in which the war has taken place is entirely unjust, illegal, and wrong. Morally and ethically wrong.”
Lee Christie, 20, a TV and Broadcast student added: “First of all, it’s an illegal invasion. Iran has every right to defend itself.
“This is becoming a pattern for Donald Trump to start invading places like Greenland, Venezuela, and now we’re talking about Iran. I’m not surprised at all.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has, to this point, taken the decision not to aid America in the conflict, with UK bases being used by the USA for defensive use only.
Jack added: “Every time Britain seems to get involved in the war in the Middle East it’s always for the wrong reasons. As long as Starmer holds his ground keeps us out of the war, the better.”
Lee agreed with Jack’s point: “It’s not our war. We shouldn’t get involved in it. It’s not our problem.”
It remains to be seen what effect the war will have on the world, as well as if the UK will end up getting involved.
