Scottish title race is starting to heat up on with cold February fixtures’ night

By Riordan Craig

ST Mirren’s win over Hearts last night has made the top and the bottom of the table tussle even more interesting as Hearts dropped what could be a crucial three points as the vie to hold their top spot.

Tonight’s packed Scottish Premiership fixtures means there is a lot up for grabs as Celtic and Rangers looked to narrow the game on the league leaders.

The uwsnews sports desk looks at what could be a vital night in the campaign:

Aberdeen v Celtic (8pm)

The Dons will be looking to bounce back following their defeat against Kilmarnock, while Celtic are looking for a win to move three points behind Hearts. Victory for Aberdeen could move them two points behind Falkirk, whilst defeat could put them down to eighth. Celtic’s three deadline day loanees could debut tonight, with Dennis Geiger and Tom McIntyre looking to make their first appearances for the Dons.

Rangers v Kilmarnock (7.45pm)

Rangers are looking for a response following a goalless draw in Edinburgh against Hibernian. Deadline day signing Ryan Don Naderi could make his debut for the Glasgow side. Killie ended their 16-game winless run against Aberdeen on Saturday. Aaron Tshibola and Nicky Clescenco could make their Killie debuts.

Livingston v Falkirk (7.45pm)

Bottom side Livingston are looking to avoid a Premiership record 23rd game without victory as Marvin Bartley takes charge for the first time. However, their only league win came at home against Falkirk. Victory for Livi could move them back to just three points off the play-off spot. A Falkirk win could leave them eight points clear in the final Top Six place.

Dundee v Motherwell (7.45pm)

Dundee are looking to end a three-game goalless run in the league against Motherwell, as they hope to return to ninth in the league. Dundee’s trio of deadline day signings could make their debuts. Motherwell are looking to continue their good run of form, which has seen them concede just two goals in their last 12 league games. Victory for the Well, coupled with defeats for Celtic and Rangers, moves them just two points behind the Glasgow sides. The game is subject to a 2:30pm pitch inspection.

Hibernian v Dundee United (7.45pm)

Hibs are looking to end a four-game winless run in all competitions whilst Dundee United are searching for a first win in three league games. United could fall to ninth with a defeat or rise to seventh with a win. Emmanuel Agyei could make his debut for United, alongside Hibs’ three new players.
