CALLUM DAVIDSON smells a financial opportunity next month when he take his Queens Park side to Ibrox in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.
The Spiders were drawn away to Rangers after defeating Montrose 3-2 at Hampden Park on Saturday.
Meanwhile Philippe Clement’s men blew away Fraserburgh 5-0 at home.
Belgian boss Clement has one trophy in his time in charge of the Govan club which came in this competition, which highlights the size of the task facing Davidson’s players who currently sit fifth in the Championship standings.
Davidson, who managed St Johnstone to an extraordinary Cup double in 2021, said on Premier Sports: “Financially, it is great for the club to get a draw like that, but it will be a tough game for us.”
Meanwhile the last game of the fourth round saw Dundee beat bitter rivals Dundee United 1-0 thanks to a goal from striker Simon Murray after just 58 seconds.
Jim Goodwin’s United threw everything at their near neighbours but could not find a way past goalkeeper Trevor Carson.
The Dee’s victory saw them paired with second tier Airdrie in the next round but it is not a tie that Dundee manager Tony Docherty will allow his squad to take lightly.
He told BBC Scotland: “We’ll give Airdrieonians the upmost respect. I’ve just glad we’ve got a home tie.
“I see the atmosphere tonight and that’s what you can get at Dens Park with the synergy between players and fans. They see the effort the players are putting in, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves – tonight was a real big task to beat a good side at home and keep a clean sheet.”
The only all Scottish Premiership tie will see St Mirren play hosts to Hearts in Paisley. While holders Celtic will be at home to Raith Rovers.
Here is the Scottish Cup fifth round draw in full:
Aberdeen v Dunfermline Athletic
Ayr United v Hibernian
Celtic v Raith Rovers
Dundee v Airdrieonians
Livingston v Cove Rangers
Rangers v Queen’s Park
St Johnstone v Hamilton Academical
St Mirren v Heart of Midlothian
The ties will be played on the weekend of February 7.
