“We want to acknowledge the reports shared on varying media outlets tonight and understand it’s not the news that people wanted. A statement will follow tomorrow.”

The second statement released confirmed that one of the oldest teams in Scottish football will be placed into administration,

The Sons was founded in 1872 and had early success in the top flight, securing one Premiership title, this title however was controversially awarded to both Dumbarton and Rangers. Dumbarton earned promotion via the Play-Offs last year and since then they have been a regular in the nations lower leagues.

The official statement has confirmed that all staff currently working with the club will have job security:

“The club employs 18 playing staff, six football staff and three club staff whose roles are secure whilst we work through the early stages of assessing the options available to the club. We would invite any interested parties to come forward.”

Dumbarton were the first league club in Scotland to have a supporters trust, which works to strengthen the links between the club and the fans. The trust own a significant number of shares in the club and are the fourth largest shareholder.

Following a £25,000 direct investment, the trust also has a representative on the club board of directors. The supporters’ trust works with the club to produce the match programme & run the club website. As well as those important functions, the trust’s main role at the club is that of overseeing commercial activity.

Dumbarton will travel to play Alloa Athletic on Saturday the 23rd of November, with the side currently sitting 8th in the league with 15 points, manager Stevie Farrell promises that he will “collect as many points as we can” and vows to do everything he can to help the 151-year-old club.
