AYRSHIRE people believe Trump has left an impact on Scotland but not in a political sense.
Ayrshire man, William Clelland, gave his opinion on Trump and what he has brought to Scotland: “Well, I don’t fancy him as President but what he’s done for Scotland and Turnberry here. He’s built a fantastic golf course, two fantastic golf courses.”
Trump opened his first golf course in Scotland, in 2012, in Aberdeenshire and he then bought Ayrshire’s Turnberry course in 2014.
Donald Trump and Scotland have formed which you might call a love-hate relationship over the last decade or so with the 78-year-old taking ownership of multiple golf resorts across his mother’s homeland.
Although, YouGov’s recent survey shows that Trump is most well received in Scotland, in comparison to the rest of Western Europe, the results show a 25% level of support for Trump with Harris’ backed by 56% of Scots.
Mary Anne Trump, Donald’s mother, grew up on the Scottish Hebridean island of Lewis before moving to New York. Since his mother’s death, the Republican’s front man has always tried to keep ties with Scotland, speaking fondly on the North of the United Kingdom.
