Political violence and gun laws

Ryan Niven

TWO assassination attempts on Presidential candidate Donald Trump has ensured gun laws in America is a major political issue yet again.

The attempts on Trump’s life is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and security for political players.

In 1963 John F Kennedy was assassinated as he travelled in a motorcade in Texas making him the first President to be assassinated in modern times.

In 1981, there was an attempt on Republican President Ronald Reagan’s live and over the decades the issue of security and protection on candidates has been an visible necessity.

Across the pond, there are those who believe the lack of gun control is a factor in the recent attempts on Trump’s life.

And for one UWS filmmaking student Jake McKill the reason is simple: “That’s probably because of their gun laws ,they have no idea what to do with their gun laws.”
