As America vote over the country for what is set to be one of the most important Presidential elections in years, the influence of sport and its players have an important part in deciding who will be the next President.

With an average of 18.9 million viewers a week the National Football League (NFL) is America’s most popular sport.

The NFL is covered on multiple networks such as CBS, Fox, NBC and ABC which all have shown Presidential campaign adverts for both candidates over the past few weeks.

Some NFL players have already expressed who they believe should run the country with none more prominent than San Francisco 49ers Edge, Nick Bosa.

Last week, after the 49ers won against the Dallas Cowboys, Bosa crashed an NBC post game interview wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat and said: ‘I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think that it’s an important time.”

Former NFL and Pittsburgh Steelers stars Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell have both shown their support for former President Donald Trump also by attending rallies in the important swing state of Pennsylvania.

Trump is used to weighing in on events in the NFL, as back in 2016 with then Quarterback of the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the National anthem in protest.

Kaepernick said: “I am not going to stand up and show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour.”

Trump replied saying: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’”

NFL players have been less vocal about supporting current Vice President, Kamala Harris unlike NBA stars.

The biggest NBA star currently playing, LeBron James has been an open critic of Trump as well as a supporter of Joe Biden and Harris, with the Los Angles Lakers star endorsing Harris last week saying: “When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!”
