By Scott Greer

With the success of The Batman in 2022, Glasgow is looking for another shot at being Gotham City once again after the sequel has been announced.

With the highly anticipated sequel set to be released sometime in 2026, it is extremely likely that Robert Pattinson will return as Batman, with Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as The Penguin all set to be soon in Scotland in the next few years as they return to Gotham City.

Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ released in 2022 was highly praised for how realistic and gritty Gotham City looked with it using parts of Glasgow.

The cast and crew, featuring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz were filming in Glasgow in 2020 during the Covid lockdown.

The film featured the Glasgow Cathedral, as Batman and Catwoman were riding away on their bikes in the north east side of the city, as the shot showed off the rest of Glasgow.

On the topic of why Glasgow works so well for Gotham City, a Glaswegian, Owen said: “With how some of our buildings were built, they work really well with how gothic they look. It gives off that feeling that you could be in that world, especially late at night.”

The Batman and its sequel will not be the only big movie that Glasgow has featured in, with the city hosting films such as ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, ‘Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ and ‘The Flash’.
