Scratch night returns this Thursday to the Snug Bar at the UWS Ayr Campus.
The event is a chance for students to showcase their talents: whether it is playing a musical instrument, reciting a poem or simply just to have an enjoyable time, scratch night is an opportunity for students to socialise and make new friends.
While the aim of the night is to create a space for students, it has evolved beyond that and has now become an opportunity for students to get involved in organising the event and develop new skills.
Kate Cotter, Programme Leader BA (Hons) Broadcast Production and the organiser, said: “Importantly for me, as the person running it, I’ve built up a team of people who like to set [the event] up, they’ve learned how to use the PA and amp set up and run it as an event.
“So people get used to running events as well.”
Kate also mentioned the prospect of “live streaming” in the future but stressed that students are the primary focus.
She added: “We don’t want to put people under pressure if they are performing for the first time or if they are new to singing in public.”
Students and friends across all courses are welcome and the event kicks off at 5pm and is set to run until 8pm.
