Aston Martin have announced the signing of legendary car designer, Adrian Newey at their Silverstone factory.
It was announced in the follow up to the Miami Grand Prix earlier this year that he would leave Red Bull.
The British designer was linked with a move to Ferrari, Williams and Alpine but despite those rumours, he has chosen Aston Martin.
The 65-year-old will be paid a reported £20 million a year with the possible rise to £30 million, a record for a non-driver in the sport.
Newey has won 12 constructors and 13 drivers titles throughout his career at Williams, McLaren and Red Bull making Newey the most successful designer in Formula 1 history.
At the press conference on Tuesday, Adrian Newey said it was an easy decision to join the Silverstone based team.
Aston Martin have recently opened up their new factory in 2023 with further developments completed this week along with their new factory which is set to be operational at the start of 2025.
The Aston Martin brand was also a lure for Adrian calling it the biggest car brand out there with Ferrari.
Fernando Alonso was also key to capturing the legendary designer as Newey in the past has made no secret that one of his biggest regrets was not working with the Spaniard of which he branded as his arch enemy throughout his career.
F1 fan, Finlay McEleny states: “What he was able to do at Red Bull and Williams will make a massive impact.
“It is possibly the best progression for Aston Martin.”
Samantha MacAllister said: “As much as I liked him as a Red Bull fan, I think Williams would have been a better option for him to go full circle.”
Newey will start working for Aston Martin in March 2025 as he prepares the team for the 2026 regulations.
