For the first time in ten years nearly half of all MA Broadcast Journalism students have travelled worldwide to study at UWS’s Ayr Campus.
Campus reporter Amanda Crawford caught up with a newcomer to shed light on life as travelling student.
All the way from Punjab in Pakistan, Mohammed Awais Ameer, 25, has come to Scotland to fulfil a lifelong dream of being a broadcast reporter.

Mohammed said: “It has been my lifelong dream to come to Scotland.
“Journalism is such a broad field that I can take anywhere in the world, travel with and apply to world current affairs.”
The keen traveller previously spent every summer exploring his native country. A favourite place being the River Saif-ul-malook.
He said “It has a great scenery and is surrounded by hills and ice.”
Mohammed admits that scenic nature was the most attractive thing about moving to Scotland to study, but the move has not been without heartache. He leaves behind two parents and five siblings in his pursuit of career success.
“It has been difficult to leave my family behind and I miss them very much. I keep in touch with my parents regularly and hope to return within five years to continue my work as a Broadcast Reporter.”
Mohammed looks forward to settling in to student life and resides in Glasgow while he is at UWS.
