A CANCER breakthrough in Spain will be welcome news to Scottish people and their families living with pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer is the fifth most commonly occurring cancer in Scotland and the latest medical research by the Spanish National Cancer Research is one of the most positive steps forward in fighting the disease.
The research, led by Dr. Mariano Barbacid, suggest human trials could potentially begin in as little as two to three years.
Pancreatic cancer is most commonly diagnosed in the later stages with a five-year survival rate of of 7.3% and in 2020, had a mortality rate of 16.1 per 100,000 where many who received a diagnosis were past the possibility of curative surgery or any intervention.
For Scotland, although these new findings underline positive medical progress, it is also important to continue to share awareness and garner public support as funding raising inititaives continue to raise money for vital research..
