Draws vs losses. Someone has to win. Motherwell vs Aberdeen

By Alexander Cruickshanks

This Saturday Motherwell will host Aberdeen in a game that has a lot riding on the result for both teams as they are still to register league victories this season. The Steelmen have started their league campaign with five consecutive draws and currently sit seventh in the table. Whereas Aberdeen have lost every one of their games and are yet to score a single goal, their worst league start in 26 years.

Glen Schreuder is the host of Red Tinted Glasses, a huge Aberdeen fan media podcast, reflected on the season so far: “The season has gone a bit pear shaped early doors. Knocked out the league cup last weekend (against Motherwell), without a goal or a win in the premiership so hopefully we can kickstart the league campaign this weekend at fir park. But to that we need to find the back of the net.”

When the attention is turned to the game this weekend they played each other less than a week ago, the aforementioned 1-0 defeat to Motherwell Glen said: “In the game last if Motherwell finished their chances they could’ve won the game more comfortable than they did. Admittedly we also hit the woodwork twice, disappointingly that was defenders ding so but taking for that their are going to be opportunities that we can carve out.

“Hopefully they fall to someone with a bit more composure or someone you’d rather them fall to than a defender. I do think the first goal is going to be absolutely massive for this game.”

If Motherwell get the victory over Aberdeen and continue to pile pressure on Jimmy Thelin, there has been a lot of speculation whether this will be his last match in charge.

But Glen didn’t think so: ” I do think he will get the midweek game against Shaktar and the next league game against Dundee. If it’s an extremely heavy defeat like three plus goals I think his position becomes even more shaky but I do see him getting until the next international break to turn things round.”

I also turned to the Scottish football reddit to get some reaction from fans from both sides. tonycocacola is an Aberdeen fan on Reddit and he echoes some of Glen’s opinions.

gbrem97 is a Motherwell supporter who gave his opinions on the game.

And finally from the Reddit this Motherwell fan really puts into perspective Aberdeen’s situation.

To get a gauge of the general reaction and feeling towards this game I put up two polls with the same question asking who they think will win the game on Saturday with 87 percent favouring Motherwell.

The polls are still active on Twitter and TikTok so make sure to get involved and give your opinions on what is a huge game the SPFL.
