Steve Clarke today announced his squad for the upcoming Nations League double header against Greece, as they are hoping to remain in League A of the UEFA Nations League, via a play-off.
There are quite a few surprise call-ups in Clarke’s squad, including some first-time inclusions. and a few returning Tartan Army favourites.
Let’s cover the newcomers. Lennon Miller’s time has come – he has been seen to be on the periphery of the senior Scotland squad for a while, but the Motherwell star, who is seen by many as one of Scotland’s strongest young players, with a very high ceiling. Lennon will follow in the footsteps of his father, Lee, who was capped three times for his country. His son has two goals and six assists this season from the Motherwell midfield.Another potential debutant is James Wilson. The 18-year-old Hearts centre-forward has scored five goals in only 17 Premiership games and has clearly caught the eye of the national team manager.
In recent times, Clarke has face selection headaches with injuries, and this has continued with this squad, with players such as Ben Doak and Lyndon Dykes being unavailable for selection. However, Kieran Tierney returns to the national team fold, having recovered from his latest injury setback.
To remain at Europe’s top table, Scotland need to overcome Greece, with the first leg taking place in Piraeus on March 20, and the decider at Hampden on March 23.
