THE Scottish Cup is down to its final eight with six Scottish Premiership teams and a couple from the Championship after Rangers’ shock defeat against Queen’s Park.
The ties will take place on the weekend of March 8.
Celtic v Hibernian
Celtic are well on track to retain football’s second oldest cup. Brendan Rodgers’ side are charging towards their third treble under the Norther Irish manager, and the first of his second spell.
The Hoops earned their third home tie of this season’s competition after a routine 5-0 win against Raith Rovers.
Since Hibs 3-0 loss at Celtic Park, they’re unbeaten in their last 11. David Gray will look to pull off a ‘cupset’ which would leave them in the tournament’s driving seat, hoping to emulate the success of their 2016 triumph.
Gray’s side took care of Ayr United at Somerset Park, after Rocky Bushiri’s late winner.
Aberdeen v Queen’s Park
Aberdeen’s league season has fallen apart with no wins in their last 14 matches. Amid the league collapse, the Dons have recorded wins over Elgin City and Dunfermline Athletic, at Pittodrie, in the Scottish Cup.
Queen’s Park recorded one of the biggest Scottish Cup upsets ever against Rangers. The championship side earned the first clean sheet any team has managed at Ibrox this season as Seb Drozd scored the only goal.
Aberdeen will be the favourites, but after one major scalp to their name already, Queens will fancy their chances.
Hearts v Dundee
Hearts have found form under Neil Critchley and if last week’s league bout between these two is anything to go off, Dundee could be in trouble.
The Jambos edged past St Mirren on penalties to earn their first home tie of this season’s cup.
Dundee eased past Championship strugglers Airdieonians to make it to this stage but will need to raise their levels against stronger opposition.
Livingston v St Johnstone
The battle of lower division challengers against higher division strugglers are always an interesting matchup.
Despite St Johnstone’s terrible start to the season, they’ve recorded four wins on the bounce for the first time under Simo Valakari.
Livingston have hit form at the right time as they’re challenging for both the Championship and a semi-final ticket to Hampden.
David Martindale’s side comfortably beat League One, Cove Rangers. Whereas the Saints’ late goal against Hamilton scraped them through.
