Country says farewell to King of football

SCOTTISH football legend Dennis Law’s funeral took place in Manchester on Tuesday as the world of sport gathered to say their farewells.

The former Balon D’or winner died in January after a long battle with dementia at the age of 84.

Denis ‘The King” Law remains the only Scottish player to win the prestigious award.

Throughout his career he played for the likes of Torino and Manchester City and most famously and fondly Manchester United. He won five trophies with Manchester United only missing out on European glory through injury.

Law also appeared in the 1974 World Cup turning out for Scotland were he made 55 appearances scoring 30 goals in this time.

Scottish football fans and Manchester United fans alike paid their respects to the departed legend as his funeral take place today and his funeral cortege passed by Old Trafford where Law enjoyed his glory days at ten past one before making its way to Manchester Cathedral.

A Manchester United statement read: “One of our greatest-ever players sadly passed away last month, aged 84, and his funeral is being held at Manchester Cathedral on Tuesday afternoon (11 February).”

A Book of Condolence will be made available via the East Stand hospitality reception at Old Trafford, between 12:00 and 14:00 GMT, so supporters can leave their personal messages and memories of ‘The King of the Stretford End’.
