2024 US Election

The World waits as America votes

By Harry Freemantle

THE polls are currently open across the United States as citizens cast their votes for the 47th President of the United States.

Donald Trump will want revenge for 2020 – a campaign he believes was robbed in a “rigged” election to gain his second term in office following his time in office between 2017-2021.

Kamala Harris will look to be the first woman President of the United States only the second female to run as a candidate with Hillary Clinton running for the Democrats back in 2016.

This election is looking to be one of the closest in the nation’s history as the seven swing states that will decide the election are split with very narrow margins – some suggesting just one per cent between candidates according to the polls.

As well as the vote for President, all 435 seats in House of Representatives are up for grabs and 34 of the 100 seats on Senate so there is a lot of results to come through which will shape the USA for the next four years.

Voters in 41 states will consider a total of 159 ballot initiatives, with 10 states including Arizona, Colorado and Florida have abortion=related measures on the ballot paper and Florida, North Dakota and South Dakota are considering whether to legalise marijuana.

The first results from the 50 states are expected to be announced at around 2am in the UK on Wednesday November 6.
