ScotRail peak times to return

By Harry Freemantle

ScotRail are set to increase prices of on peak tickets by a staggering 67% starting September 27.

The line from Paisley Gilmour Street to Ayr will now cost £18.30 for a return ticket compared to the current fee of £12.

Students will be looking into getting a student rail card to save money, according to the student body.

Student of University West of Scotland Luke Duthart said: “I don’t have a railcard however I am looking into one.

“As I’m traveling from Hamilton a long distance and traveling through peak times therefore it would make a difference.”

Some commuters may discover their train fees to increase by over double their current fees.

Transport Scotland stated that the trial ended as it did not persuade enough people from leave their cars and take public transport. The scheme was ended due to financial pressure.

Train ticket prices are a discussion point on whether the fees are overpriced.

Luke went on to state: “I would say so with the peak times there is not a need for that price its only there to make more money.”

Traveller Liz Stewart is conflicted on the increase stating: “As I’m traveling around the area so its not too bad however, it depends on how much it will increase if its 10% I would be good but if I bought a ticket everyday it would add up.

Any ticket before 9:30am or from 4:30-6pm on weekdays will drastically increase.
