James Tavernier could be heading out the exit door at Ibrox as Besiktas JK are suspected to make a bid for the Rangers captain, in the final days of the Turkish transfer window. Could this be a good move for Tavernier? I interviewed some local Rangers fans to get their perspective on the possible move.
Daniel McLeod from Ayr thinks “It’s no surprise as he’s come under a bit of scrutiny at the minute but I think it’s possibly time for him to move on.”
James Clark from Ayrshire had this to say “Its positive for all sides if he does move on, but I think the way the manager [Philip Clement] wants to play, he’s not physical enough. He’s not a good enough defender, he’s lost many yards of pace and I think we can do better because of the wage he’s commanded at the club.”
What are the potential benefits of a move to Turkey for Tavernier?
We know that he would be working under former manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst who has been in charge from June this year.
He would be playing against top opposition such as the Jose Mourinho ran Fenerbahçe side as well as defending champions and rivals Galatasaray, who have just added world class striker Victor Osimhen.
What do Besiktas fans think of this move?
I spoke to Besiktas fan Faiz, from Airdrie, Scotland. He said “It would be a great move and it would bring a lot of new fans to the Turkish League and it would be exciting to bring a player of his quality and to work with former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this transfer saga as the Turkish transfer window is about to slam shut.
