Scottish Walking Football is now one of the fastest growing and developing sports for men and women in the UK. What was once a sport designed to help older and disabled people stay fit and socialise is now attracting players of all ages.
It could be argued that this emerging sports game provides the perfect opportunity and environment for those who are unable to participate in traditional football games.

John Sutton, founder of John Sutton Community Club, a Scottish charity organisation, tells us that the football players usually choose to play their daily football training and matches at the Firhill Complex in Maryhill.

John also introduced us about what the walking football is.
“So walking football is a football game for a little bit older or physically unable to run. It’s pretty much same as football. It’s three touch really glad pressure to play it. Most different thins is ‘WALKING’ “
It’s definitely an international football game. It’s quite a big community, every men and women could join us.
The walking football brings a lot of positive impact to the community. Not only does it help keep the players physically and mentally fit, it builds good relationships with people in the community and it helps people who love football to realise their dreams.
Jim tells the story of his time with the sport as a football player at the community club.
“I retired before Covid and I haven’t done any sports so coming back to do this for health wise fitness wise really good and I’ll also say that mental health wellbeing as well.”

Jawad Ali has loved football since he was a child but stopped playing because of injuries. However, after the Covid pandemic he started joining clubs to participate in walking football, which was a new start for him after twenty years, the walking football gave him new hopes and opportunities.

I used to playing football all the time.
It’s part of your life, and then you come back, start playing the walking football.
It just such a joy just be able to play football again.
The walking football is gaining popularity not only as a sport but also as a way of socialising. It is certain that the future of the sport will be very promising!
